When Ubuntu fails to boot, it will enter the recovery mode in GRUB2 which will disable the timeout, so it will stay on the GRUB menu and will not proceed to boot the OS as the timeout is disactivated.
One workaround is to disable it so that the timeout doesn't get disactivated. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to initramfs-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1414396 Title: ubuntu dropped to initramfs shell after reboot several hours Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: 1. on few server 2. create 16 service profiles and associate them to 16 servers 3. pxe install 16 servers 4. start 2 medusa maim on each host 5. start 6 iperf on each host 6. reboot host-172(ubuntu with efi boot) and host-181 (ubuntu with legacy boot) every 2 minutes 7. after reboots for several hours, the server 181 stops in initramfs shell. see screenshot 8. reset server 181, it stops in gnu grub menu, see screenshot, then hit return, the host can boot successfully 9. reboot the host 181 again, it doesn't stop in gnu grub menu as in step9, and it can boot successfully.
