I think you may be missing the point slightly. The purpose of adding a
USB disk to the Touch is to play music (nothing more). It isn't intended
to be a NAS replacement for all of your network file sharing needs!

You can access the Touch-connected disk from another machine on your
network principally so that you can put new music-related files for the
Touch on to it - not to read from it.
