I've had the same problem with my Samsung Story Station 1.5TB and got very frustrated.
I did: - a quick format of the Samsung in standard size. - put some music on it. - Nothing happened. Then a full restart: - removed Squeezebox center - reset the Squeezebox itself (push button at back for several seconds)and got in fabric mode. - New installation with USB drive connected. It worked for me!
