i finally managed to dismantle it. the flexi pcb cable did give me some
problems until i could locate the latch.

then as i unscrewed the screws, i didn't know i missed one. it's hidden
underneath some soft damping material. damn!

ok. the bad news. the touch is a thousand times unlike the sb3. if you
look at the sb3, you could trace the spdif output to the ttl ic driving
it. you could trace the dac. you could tell which is which, what is
what.

on the touch, everything is much much smaller! chip packages are bga,
qfn, tssop... very very tiny, very very small.

i could identify the dac as akm4420. headphone chip ts486. couldn't
locate what's driving the spdif output though. i don't care much about
the internal dac, headphone amp, nor toslink. i only want i2s or find a
better way to tap out spdif.

i2s can be tapped from input of akm4420 but you still need to do your
homework. all the components around it are so tiny. believe me, a 0805
resistor dwarfs over all the passive components here!

i could also see a wolfson wm8974 chip. since this chip has so many
features, not sure what it's function here.

as much as i want to remove the spdif rca and replace with a bnc, and
put in a pulse transformer for spdif, the lack of space is really an
issue here. there simply isn't much!

i get home late every day so it's too dark to take photos. i'll take
photos if i get home early.
