Like I already mentioned in the bug ticket, I cannot confirm this. For me it is definitely just "fade out" and "fade in and out" which produce the gap, "crossfade" and "fade in" are ok and the song plays to the end without a gap. And "smart crossfade" makes a difference here as well in that it does not produce a gap (with "fade out" or "fade in and out") if two consecutive tracks of the same album are played.
