Really so when you turn your TV off or other hifi device off then you
can NOT turn them back on with a remote right? Cause if they are truly
off the remote will NOT be able to turn them back on.

Also here is a list of devices that do not have a true power off switch
in my house:
TV
VCR
DVD player
Coffee maker
Fridge
Washing Machine and Dryer
Every Clock in the house
Microwave
Stove
Toaster Oven
Tivo

Keep in mind most items with a remote will not have a "TRUE" off state
if the user expects to be able to power it on with the remote. Also
many devices that use a "soft-touch" button also require power at all
times to make that button work. Devices with clocks need power to
maintain time. Some devices also stay powered to some level to reduce
start-up time. My TV for instance takes forever to power up after I
have unplugged it compared to from its soft-off state.
