Funny, this is exactly the problem I see when trying to let TinySBS scan
a copy of my main library. The only difference is that my library
contains only FLAC files. Everything goes fine till the artwork scan.
After extensively looking for and deleting large artwork files, it now
scans about 30% of the library and stops with the same error message
you mention. After starting TinSBS again, two things can happen:

1. When going to the Squeezebox Server screen it says there
'Squeezecenter is scanning your library, please wait...' Often this
message stays and I can use TinySBS, but it works vey slow. The curious
thing is, when I ssh into the Touch while nothing is playing, cpu usage
is very low, so it is unclear to me what's happening in this case.
2. At other times it starts in the same way as stated at 1, but after a
few seconds starts discovering directories. But this always ends with
the error message dring artwork scan described above and TinySBS stops.
In that case the log always gives an out of memory error.

I have made a new small library on another disc and with that all works
well and the Touch plays all my the files on the USB disk without any
stuttering, including all 24/96 FLAC files.

I think there is something wrong with artwork scanning, but I can't
find a way to debug it. I have the impression not only cover.jpg. etc.
are scanned, but also larger jpgs. But now I have removed all large
jpegs, I see the same behaviour.

It would not surprise me that the reported stuttering will find this is
due to a background scan going on.

I can live with all this, because the disc is only meant as a 'holiday
collection'. But it would be a lot nicer if I could just use a copy of
my main library for that.

John Svensson is looking for me how to debug artwork scanning; if I
know where the scanner chokes, things will become a lot easier to fix.
