The device has apps that let you put your cards in and upload your pix to sites as well as view them. That's the reason for all the card support.
The button on the top is multi function. It's not really designed to be an alarm clock, but it can do it. Yes, no audio out other than the headphone jack. I'll post back after I try a USB DAC. I'm a huge Pandora consumer and can add that the Pandora player works well. It's still not Pandora One, but it works just as well as mysb.
