The most important factor would be if they actually have true analog
bypass most reciever does not analog inputs are digitized .

In this case the sane way to use any source is by it's digital output
.

Even if it have analog pass-trough , no dsp modes or subwoofer could be
used etc .

Most recievers are concieved to be used with digital sources , the
analog ins are some kind of "legacy support" for vcr's tv boxes etc.

And for example an 5.1 volume control would be much cheaper to build in
the digital/semi digital domain and in most real world cases better .
