I've also had this issue whereby the SBT stops playing the current track with about 30 seconds to go and jumps to the next track.
I've got 30k files (mp3 and high bit rate wma) and am running with a local USB drive. The problem is intermittent. I've never completed a full scan successfully, it usually reports "stopped due to a problem", although once it got to 99% scanning the albumart. Memory usage is reported as 76%.
