you can control the receiver from the touch whether you sync to the touch or not. However, if you SYNC to the touch, and then you change songs on the touch with your IR, it will also change on the receiver (because they are synched). But why add the receiver (unless you already have one handy). Isn't a touch about the same price? And the touch is easier to use and has the screen....
