It looks like tinySBS is monitoring file access, which might be a reason for the throughput limitations you experience in network connections for file access (scp or SMB share). Effectively, there's on-the-fly scanning. Just mount the SMB share, drop you're files and you're done. (That's the way it worked for me last time)
