I tried switching off an amp and active speakers through a master/slave strip with no success. I'm using the touch with usb, and the difference between on and off seems to be to marginal to be recognized by the strip (I guess the diffeence is just the display being on or off). I'll try that with another external USB-drive soon, since I have the impression that the one I'm using now doesn't spin down at all.
