Temporarily wiring players and/or server is only to see if WiFi is
causing the issue so you don't end up chasing the wrong problem.

Ex: if you were having problems with your home phone the problem could
be
- phone itself
- wiring inside the home
- wiring outside the home
- phone company issues

The easiest way to determine where the problem is (and who's
responsibility it is to fix) I would suggest taking a wired phone and
connect it to your outside phone utility box and make a call. If the
problem goes away then you know the issue is inside the house (your
problem). If the problem persists then the issue is likely outside the
home (phone company problem).

Point being, I'm not suggesting you now make all calls standing outside
your home at the utility box. I'm only suggesting you do so temporarily
to help diagnose the problem and hopefully eliminate several potential
trouble spots. :)
