OK. I downloaded sample files from HDTracks.com. When I right click on them and choose properties, it tells me they are "2496 files" and asks me how i want to open them. I picked Windows Media Player, since I have no other players installed on this PC.
The Squeezebox does NOT recognize them when I rescan my library, or scan for new music. Windows Media Player does not play them on the pc because it says it doesn't recognize the codec.
