Does that short spike occur about 10 seconds before the end of the track, as opposed to at the very end of the track? That would make sense, because I believe SBS sends the next track into the SB's buffer when there are 10 seconds left on the current track (which is why, for instance, it is possible to crossfade for up to seconds).
