The clock issue may be related to time. When the Touch powers up it doesn't have a reliable time (it doesn't have a battery backed up RTC), it needs to go out to a server to get the time. If it has not received the time from a server it will not display the clock (better to not display the clock than to display a completely bogus time) If you are running stand alone (USB drive and TinySBS) the clock will not display unless the Touch can connect either to a local SBS somewhere on your network or connect to mysb.com over the internet.
If you don't have a local SBS then it has to connect over the internet to mysb.com to get the time. If something is preventing that connection you won't get a clock. Normally the Touch will try and connect to a local server first, if there isn't one it will try and connect to mysb.com. If there is an internet issue, or if mysb.com is not connecting (sometimes it has problems and players can't connect), no clock.
