Agree! First, I doubt you have a dud Touch. I think you're not getting
it setup correctly, so lets focus on this. It's sorta like you're
worried about using your car like a race car, but for now we just want
to get the engine started!

And why are you plugging in your USB drive to the TOUCH. As Toby says,
let's get it working from a baseline. Have your USB drive plugged into
your COMPUTER. Have SbS running on your Computer, and let the TOUCH
connect to the music streaming from your computer (that is the touch is
connected to your LAN and the computer is connected to your LAN).

The messages you are getting when you scan tend to be problems with a
virus scanner. Have you found a way to exclude *.myi, *.myd files?
Have you tried the scan with your computer's virus scanner turned off
temporarily? Search this forum for "norton" or "virus" and you'll see
lots of discussions about this issue. I tried to google to get some
help on norton, but couldn't see how to tell it to exclude file
extensions. Maybe a different type of anti-virus program would be a
better idea. But bottom line, your file scanning issue is either your
virus scanner or some sort of firewall issue.

Try this, open the "control panel" for your SbS running on your computer
(right click on the SB icon in your windows machine tray and select
control panel). Click on diagnostics tab. What does it report for
everything (OK vs failed, etc.)
