Well look at the bright side. I know few people that get a squeezebox
and don't have them multiply very soon! You need the small RADIO for
your bedside and then use the TOUCH with your main stereo. Heck I
started with a single Boom for a bedside radio for internet radio and
now have my house entirely setup with lots of SB players of different
flavors (I own at least one of every kind since SB3). 

p.s. If the alarm is because you absolutely must get up (job!) then it
is actually dangerous to use a networked music player as the only alarm
source. Too many things can go wrong. Internet down, the stream you are
accessing down, backup alarm doesn't fire when stream is down, etc. 
This said, my BOOM is rock solid with alarms (playing music in the AM),
but the one or two times a year that I MUST get up at a certain time
(catch a 5:30am flight), I use the Boom, my iPhone alarm, and a regular
alarm!
