The Touch is a fine pc of equip. If you go that route w the drive attached to it read through the forums on potential issues associated w some drives. An externally powered USB drive is recommended but others work. I ran a no frills sytem w a 1TB Toshiba drive for about 6 months. Its sometimes a pain when one disconnects to add new music but it does work. I now run of my PC and it really is easier/more convenient
Whatever route you go,make sure your music is well organized and well tagged. You might want to do some organizatiom and work w Squeezeplay a bit before going forward. It will give you a decent idea of how it all works.
