The status is that SOME DACs under some circumstances work straight out of the box. Others have significant clicks and pops that can be alleviated by not using plug mode. BUT many DACs use a 24 bit format that is not supported by the Touch's software so they will not work without plug mode. (the plug mode converts between 24 bit formats, but it adds an extra layer of software which causes clicks and pops) I wrote a fix to that, its a separate small program that can be loaded onto a Touch, this lets many DACs work with the Touch without plug, BUT they still ocassionaly have pops and clicks. At this point I still don't know whats causing those remaining occasional cliks and pops. Nothing I have tried has changed them. There is at least one DAC which has just plain refused to work with the Touch no matter what.
