mherger suggested to post a photo, but I decided to send the touch back to Amazon, where I had purchased it. A view weeks later I ordered a new touch, and the new device hasn't got this problem. All parts on the new device are solid and nothing is creeking. I wouldn't hesitate to swap the device.
