Oops, it seems I BSed you. :( After actually opening up my Touch in order to remove the output caps, I noticed that the sensor on the right seems to be the ambient light sensor. The IR sensor seems to be on the left side on the screen, opposite the ambient light sensor, but a few millimetres lower.
