Are you saying you had to change a setting? If so, that doesn't sound right. The default settings should work best for using both the touch screen and the IR remote.
The way it should work is that in 'touch' mode you should have small text and five lines per menu. In the Now Playing screen you should have buttons like pause, fast forward (skip), shuffle, etc. In the 'remote' mode the text becomes larger, there are only three lines per menu, and the Now Playing screen has no buttons. It should switch back and forth automatically between the two modes when you either touching the screen or press a button on the remote.
