John.

It's not good if even aplay is not working.
If anything wasn't working in the past -- aplay was.

Perhaps there is something going wrong on the USB controller side.

Or:

You could also try to set snd-usb-audio parameters, such as "nrpacks" .

I'm not sure though if you can do that on the Touch.

Or:

Meanwhile I got a headless linux system running on a FitPc (I'm looking
for a cheaper fanless micro PC solution around 100$) running
squeezeslave (or mpd) and Alsa 1.0.24 on kernel 3.0.
Finally no more begging Logitech for support - which will never happen
anyhow. I'm much more flexible right now.

With a bootable USB stick I can make any PC/MAC a squeeze client.

However at a pricepoint of 200$ the Touch is still very competitive
SPDIF ( if heavily tweaked) interface. Without tweaking interfaces
like Audiophilleo ( at a different pricepoint of course) do a much
better job then the Touch.

Anyhow. Logitech put the Touch on sale now (30% off).
That could mean that there's something new cooking in the kitchen.

Of course they have to do something. Competition is not sleeping.
Meanwhile the market gets flooded with streamers.

7.7.0 is called media server now. I wouldn't be surprised if the next
generation of Logitech streaming devices comes with an HDMI port. ;)

Cheers
