I play WAV files from a portable hard drive via the USB port on the Touch. The hard drive has 500Gb of music files and this takes quite a while for an initial scan before they can be played.
If I remove the Drive, the scan is required each time it is re-connected. If I leave it connected with the Touch on standby, the Drive stays on and is very slightly warm. Does this matter, or should I remove it and then go through the annoying scan on re-connection. I use the Touch to play the wav files about five times a week.
