I've done this with my debian system without any problems. It would just
show up in the networks box. You might want to try SSHing into the Touch
and see if samba is actually running. I presume you have a USB
drive/stick or SD card and want to share that? If the library is large
and the Touch is running out of memory sometimes samba dies, so even
though you have turned on file sharing there is  no samba server to
connect to.
