And, at a guess, this variable does *not* get reset if one goes back to
factory default.

I say that because (as a result of problems I am having) I tried setting
my new Touch back to factory defaults with my router disconnected from
the internet. The Touch made an ethernet connection, and tried to
connect to my computer (but failed - it's this failure that  is my
problem) but made no complaint about mysb.
