I went down to my local Hughes Electrical store and they think the Sonos is wonderful - and a couple of them there have owned some hi-end gear.
My concern at first was the Sonos limitation of 16 bit audio, but looking around it would seem that we don't need any higher resolution than 16 bit (see here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/415361/24bit-vs-16bit-the-myth-exploded) - plus the £13,000 Aletheia DAC from Vertex uses the most basic of chips - the TDA 1543 DAC - which is only a 16 bit design - and that's a guy that puts a lot of time and effort in getting the best from digital sound. Also the proprietary wireless for Sonos is superior to the SBT (I would be using the wireless function as a useful convenience). In addition I would not be using the internal DAC of either the SBT or Sonos due to using an external DAC of my choice which I already own. So if we rule out the superior DAC of the SBT, because I would not be using it anyway.. and we rule out the fact that 24 bit is not clearly better than 16 bit.. and include the fact that I would be using wireless which "is" superior on the Sonos - would not that make the Sonos the better choice right now? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ stop-spinning's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43254 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=96387
