That could be it. I left the output at default which is digital as opposed to analog (TT -o 1). I'll give it another try later. In any case for now I'm finding the sound with only EDO installed to be quite decent. I can't say I find it thin as some had previously mentioned. Only thing is that, for some reason, I'm unable to play 24-192 files through USB and decoding done at the server. I also noticed that Triode has added buffer tuning and kernel idle options to the menu. Nice! Might eventually eliminate the need for TT3.0 tweaking altogether.
