There is a new linux player called SqueezeLite, go check out the linux / Unix forum. It is just a black box player, no Gui. To control the system you need a controller of some sort, If you want to do the control on the same ChromeBook, you can either use the Web gui of the server or you can use squeezeplay as a controller (it works well for that, the problems has been the actual audio out part, SqueezeLite has that working now) You can also use any of the other controller apps for iThings or the several android controlers etc. There are probably other controller programs for linux, I just haven't used them recently so I'm sure what is out there now.
