Sync is simultaneous playback of the same file with the audio synced
within a very tight time frame ( minimise echo between rooms that leak
sound to each other ) unsynced players plays at whatever rate they
natively support , but synced players obviously uses the same stream and
then it need to be to a rate all in the synced group can play .

And yes SB3 will have the server downsampling to 24/48 with SOX ( a very
high quality resampler fidelity is not compromised )
