I'm currently using a SB Touch w/ Triode EDO plugin connected to a
M2Tech HiFace2 which feeds my current DAC over SPDIF.
This works like a charm, thank you Triode. I'm currently awaiting the
delivery of a Metrum HEX DAC. This will most likely also
work over SPDIF with the Hiface2 .

My HEX DAC will have the USB input option installed. As far as I know,
the Metrum USB input is based on HiFace 1 hardware meaning
that it will need a custom driver to get it working with the Touch. A
general linux driver is available as source code from:

https://github.com/panicking/snd-usb-asyncaudio/wiki

but it needs to be compiled for the Touch. I have downloaded the
SqueezeOS build environment to my linux server, but even
though I have considerable Linux experience, it seems to require quite
some work to build the Touch kernel so that I can
compile the quite small HiFace driver. And even though I may succeed, I
would rather listen to some nice music :-)

So the question: does somebody succeed in building a working for Hiface1
driver for the Touch?
