I forget what I was Googling when I ran across this thread, and I'm very
sorry to drag it up from the dredges, but I read every page with quite a
bit of amazement.
What the original poster implied (I think) is that he made a SUBJECTIVE
decision that one method sounded superior to another, thus claiming the
less-liked method must be inferior,
was not bit-perfect, or had some other issues. Just as harmonic
distortion in a tube amp can sound pleasing to some (2nd order harmonics
or whatever, I'm not an expert),
I have read where noise and/or jitter can alter the sound in a way in
which to some people might sound better to them? Since it's all
subjective, and since things like cables, noise, jitter, etc
can alter the sound it makes sense that if you take 10 people it might
be divided as to who thinks what sounds 'better' compared to an
alternative. But to make a subjective statement,
which is one person's opinion, and say that the less-liked method must
be inferior is bizarre. Maybe the most-liked method was actually
'inferior' in that it added more noise or jitter
into the path which altered the sound in a way the listener found more
pleasing, whether it gave the perception of more depth or height or 3D
effect or whatever. Just because
you find one subjectively better to you doesn't necessarily have
anything to do with which is more accurate or resolving or bit-perfect,
or whatever. I was just surprised that nobody
pointed out the fact that all he proved was that one way sounded better
to HIM, which doesn't prove anything at all except that he showed a
preference.
