You should be able to use symlinks and LMS will follow them, but you have two other options that may be easier.
Simplest is to just place everything within a single directory tree. That tree can be organized anyway that you like. There's no requirement that it be by performer, or by musical work, or by composer, as long as it's contained within a parent (or grandparent, etc.) folder. Beginning with LMS 7.0 you also have the option of specifying multiple music folders.
