1. I can't remember ever having any sound effects, probably because I've
always used EDO
2. I think this alters task priorities in the Linux kernel with a
preference for the audio thread, do it, but you don't need to, it
doesn't hurt 
3. If you have an asynchronous USB DAC then I'd suggest USB/Asynchronous
is the way to go, well it certainly is with my MDAC
4. As above, asynchronous is only relevant for USB, both Toslink and
Coax are synchronous
