It took a couple of days to transfer 1.75TB of data from from USB HDD
onto the HDD of my NSA310 recently.
I used the USB connection on the front of the NAS, having first of all
set up the direction of the data transfer from a web browser in admin
mode.
3GB shouldn't take very long at all, even if you're copying and pasting
over the network.
While you could hear disk activity during my transferring data from and
to my NAS the noise wasn't particularly loud or intrusive. The sounds
were easy to ignore.

One thing you need to bear in mind is that the NSA310 has a puny
processor and miniscule memory - once it's loaded up and established
it's good for what it's intended, which is file serving.
It's rare to do mass data transfers to and from the unit.
It's certainly up to transferring 24/192 files to the Squeezebox
Touch/EDO over wired LAN.
One thing the NSA will not do is resample material on the fly, so if
you're not using EDO and you have 24/192 material you'll need to
resample the files down to 24/96 - the Zyxel supported version of
Squeezecenter has had all the heavy processing commands removed.
