I run LMS on Win7 laptop without issue. Sure you are running LMS as Administrator? Can you open the Control Panel (right click the LMS icon in System Tray)? If yes, what does it say in Control Panel > Diagnostics for all pings, ports, IP's?
The server settings in LMS > Settings > MySqueezeBox.com will not show your password, nor even bullet markers, even when correctly saved.
