After a long night upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite 10.10.2 the LMS
7.9 server will not start.  Hit start, 4 seconds later "the server is
stopped."

Re-install the latest and greatest nightly build.

Other than that check these forums: the topic has been covered several times. It's most likely a permissions issue. But the latest installer should take care of it.
