Would it not simply offer an update after a while or possibly a restart
of the server ? it can take some time but LMS should download the
upgrade automatically .Btw the memory utilisation fixes for LMS actually
makes it use more memory if you have it to make it work faster .

Note that the latest firmware for touch is 7.8.x even if the server is
7.9      .

Flac buffering has rarely anything to do with the server version it's
usually a wifi issue . The server load is very similar regardless of
native formats if you play something in a format that needs transcoding
it can be different . but then its the helper apps like flac or SoX that
do the work .

Or are you using the LMS in the Touch itself ?

IF you are using an LMS installed somewhere , make sure you don’t have
disabled native flac in the file types setting it doubles the network
load and and makes the server transcode for no benefit at all .
