Dangerous not really. Just riskier to spend more time on it than you'd like :-).
Is the alternative then to have LMS installed on a separate device that is connected to my network? That would run 7.8 or 7.9 and the Touch would connect to it? Besides a Pi, can it also be a NAS? Would that solve my Napster problems?
Yes, that could overcome your limitations. Not only would it solve the Napster issue, it would provide you with a better overall experience, I'm pretty sure. Synology do have some SB support built-in. I'm not sure whether they're finally including a recent build with Napster support. But there's some 3rd party work being done to provide updated packages for Synology. Others have run it on Qnap, Netgear etc. But they're likely a bit more involved.
