I've never bought one of these kits, usually I just buy the 'bare Raspberry Pi' (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Raspberry-Model-Quad-Core-Motherboard/dp/B01CD5VC92/ref=sr_1_2?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1500179358&sr=1-2&keywords=raspberry+pi+3) and a 'minimalist case' (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mudder-Protective-Cover-Screw-Raspberry/dp/B01AVT9IWK/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1500179408&sr=1-1&keywords=Mudder+Protective+Case+Cover+with+Screw+for+Raspberry+Pi+3) - I've generally got several USB power supplies knocking around. I'm running piCorePlayer/LMS on a Pi3 in a very basic case, and I've always set them up using ssh and/or the piCorePlayer web interface rather than connecting a keyboard/monitor.
