Powering the device off over the night solved all issues. It connects
again to mysqueezebox.com and once that had happened it also found my
LMS server again, suggested to a SW upgrade, which I did, and then
everything worked again.

So probably it was indeed the backend load balancer that caused the
problems? Difficult to assess without knowing the architecture and
having access to log files.

What I find disturbing - why didn't the device find the LMS on my LAN?
Is that because SW versions were incompatibel?
