Ok, you did a good share of reading. But I think you confuse a few things: there's SSH to get access to the Touch's operating system. And there's the CLI to LMS, the Logitech Media server. The latter doesn't deal with the system, but only with media browsing, playback control etc.
I don't have any security enabled on the SBT, so I use telnet to connect to it; SSH wouldn't connect. I can verify that it works by typing stuff like "info total songs ?" and getting a reply.
That's the CLI - to which you can't connect using SSH indeed. You have to enable SSH in the Advanced Settings menu on the Touch.
