Just this week, no matter what I do, I get an error message telling me that Spotify timed out trying to connect.
AFAIK none of the old Spotify implementations would work any more (reliably).
Do I need the Spotty app instead?

I'm running the server on an ancient laptop with Windows XP - is that the issue?
That will be an issue for Spotty: it won't run on XP...

If you can't get your laptop on to something more recent, then get a Raspberry Pi and run LMS on it instead of your Windows machine.
