Older versions of LMS used OpenDNS but I checked current version uses the host DNS server. DNS operation by LMS can be checked by enabling logging of network.asyncdns to DEBUG I'm not too familiar with AppArmor and whether it or something like is installed on the problem system but it could restrict LMS on a per application basis. Otherwise - I still advise checking whether outgoing connections are seen by the firewall.
