I'm sorry I haven't responded to this and your previous patch faster: I'm doing a cleanup pass on wget and want to promote it this coming release. (I may break out a toys/net directory and move ifconfig and netcat and such into it.) Other todo items affected by this include generic progress indicator code (the "count" command I submitted to busybox back in 2003, http://lists.busybox.net/pipermail/busybox/2003-October/043590.html turned into "pipe-progress", and since then a non-busybox version showed up with 37 command line options, but I forget its name...) This has been kind of time consuming because I'm reading the HTML RFCs, but the real time consuming part has been that $DAYJOB is going through a crisis and turned into an enormous time sink the past few weeks. I've already switched -f to -O in my local copy. If work stops eating my life I want to get an updated wget with https support checked in and promoted soon.
