It _was_ a real thing, then Greg Kroah-Hartman started going on about how major/minor would all be dynamically allocated and randomied in future so we should stop treating it like it meant anything, and then that never happened but the maintainership of the list was allowed to lapse such that the device list from https://www.lanana.org is a 404 link. (I emailed a day or two back, but haven't followed up or tried to find an email address for the named maintainer that ISN'T on lanana.org...) You can still fish it out of archive.org. To be honest it should probably be in in the linux/Documentation directory somewhere... Sigh. I used to do a lot more kernel janitorial gadfly prodding on that sort of thing, but the kernel clique has circled their wagons so tightly I don't feel welcome there anymore. In my day the interesting technology was driven by twentysomethings, and the stuff nobody under 50 cared about was on its way out. _______________________________________________ Toybox mailing list [email protected] http://lists.landley.net/listinfo.cgi/toybox-landley.net
