A match making service is also probably needed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Tim Ansell (mithro) Date: 2006-11-04 16:32 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=18538 Here is a quick guide of what the server needs to do, The first version needs to do the following, * Allow servers to register and say "these are the games I've currently got running" * Allow servers to provide stats on the games (IE Number of Players, Number of Turns, etc) * Automatically remove servers which are no longer avalible * Filter out servers which can't be connected to from the internet (IE private addresses) * Allow clients to quickly and easily download the latest list of servers Some good additions are as follows, * Provide a match-making service which lets clients register for "I want to play this type of game". * A web frontend so people can see details about it on the web * An RSS feed so people can see new servers and games come and go Here is a quick guide of what you would need to do, 1. Develop a Meta Server code 2. Develop "proof of concept code" for a server which registers 3. Develop "proof of concept code" for a client which downloads and displays the lists. Things you need to remeber, * Clients and servers could be written in any language (Python, C++, Ruby, Java, PHP, etc), so don't use language specific features (such as Python Pickle) * Clients will need to access this page ALOT on startup, low bandwidth usage and low latency is essential * Some servers can run multiple games at once It is recommend that you do some type of simple database with a web ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=829724&aid=1464960&group_id=132078 _______________________________________________ tp-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.thousandparsec.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/tp-bugs
