I don't think that patching of templates is required anymore for the
time tracking patch to work. You should be able to plugin to the
ITicketGroupStatsProvider extension point. This would also make it
easier to maintain the patch, because it would be a smaller patch.
Of course, this would require some investment now, and I am not sure
how
much work you are looking for to get this working on 0.10.3.1
